Devices
My device does not boot and asks for a recovery key?
An update can cause devices not to boot because the decryption key cannot be read. The key is visible in device management under "Security".
Which devices can I manage with Numiato?
Currently Windows devices, iPads, and macOS devices can be managed.
How can I add devices to Numiato?
Instructions for adding devices can be found under Add Device.
What is the Autopilot tag to sort devices into device categories before commissioning?

Why do I receive a 'Storage Error' when importing devices?
When importing a hardware hash, providing the serial number is mandatory. If the Autopilot script cannot determine a serial number, it means the motherboard manufacturer has not stored one. In this case the device cannot be used.
Why are not all my devices visible in Numiato?
In Numiato you can see all Windows devices, iPads, and macOS devices that are registered in your Intune tenant. Devices that have not been fully deployed appear under "Not registered".
Which Windows devices should I purchase?
We recommend devices from well-known manufacturers such as Microsoft, Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc., as these go through Microsoft certification processes. "Self-built PCs/laptops" often do not meet the security requirements.
My device has Windows Home – can I still add it?
Intune only supports Windows 10/11 Pro devices. You must manually install Windows 10/11 Pro Education:
- Download the Media Creation Toolkit.
- Create a Windows 10/11 installation USB stick.
- Place the ei.cfg file in the "Sources" folder on the USB stick.
- Install Windows 10/11 Pro Education on the device.
Warning
Note the difference between Windows 10 Pro Education and Windows 10 Education.
Can my devices be upgraded to Windows 11?
Numiato is fully compatible with Windows 10 and 11. You can enable the upgrade to Windows 11 in the Policy Management.
Note
You need a valid Windows 11 license. If your current Windows 10 device is activated and you use M365 A3 licenses, you can enable the upgrade.
Where do I find my Tenant ID?
Your Tenant ID can be found in the Numiato portal under Settings.
My iPad is connected to Wi-Fi but cannot establish an internet connection?
Check whether the date and time are set correctly. Adjust the settings manually if necessary.
Apps were assigned to devices but don't appear on the device — what to do?
- Check whether the app is assigned to the correct device, category, or room in the Application Management.
- Make sure the device is connected to the internet.
It may take several hours for the device to receive the application.
An iPad shows 'Unavailable' or cannot be unlocked due to too many failed attempts.
A Remove Passcode command can be sent to the iPad via Numiato. The iPad must be connected to the internet for this to work.
Shared iPads
On Shared iPads, pressing the power button twice connects the device to Wi-Fi — after which the Numiato command can take effect.
- Navigate to the device in Numiato Device Management.
- Under Device Actions, select Remove Passcode.
If no Wi-Fi is available, a USB-C to Ethernet adapter can be used to connect the device to the network via cable.
If no network connection is possible, the iPad must be reset manually:
- Connect the iPad to a Mac via USB-C cable.
- Reset it using the Apple Devices app or Finder.
For iPads registered in Apple School Manager, it will automatically re-enroll after the reset.
The Wi-Fi profile has suddenly disappeared from devices — what should I do?
Wi-Fi profiles are distributed via policies. If a profile disappears:
- Check in the Policy Management whether the Wi-Fi policy is still assigned to the correct category.
- Has the category or room of the device changed? If so, the assignment may have been lost.
- Manually force a Sync on the device.
Devices do not respond to commands like Sync or Wipe — why?
Device commands are only executed when the device is switched on and connected to the internet. The device then connects to Intune at the next check-in (usually within 15 minutes to 8 hours).
- Check whether the device is switched on and online.
- Check when the device last synchronized (visible under Device Health).
A device cannot be reset because the storage is full.
A remote wipe via Numiato can also be triggered when storage is full — the command is executed at the next device check-in and deletes all data on the device.
- Navigate to the device in Numiato Device Management.
- Under Device Actions, select Reset.
Login & Access
I cannot log in to the Numiato portal — what should I do?
Check the following:
- Is your school account active and does login work for other Microsoft services (e.g. Outlook)?
- Are you registered as an administrator in the Numiato portal? If not, ask your Numiato administrator to add you. If you don't know who that is, contact support@numiato.de.
- Try clearing the browser cache or using a different browser.
How do new system administrators get access to the Numiato portal?
Existing administrators can add new system administrators directly in the Numiato portal under Settings. If no administrator is available, contact support@numiato.de.
Policies & Commands
Can Numiato manage device policies for different groups?
Yes. In Numiato you can configure policies separately for teacher devices, student devices, and shared devices. Apps, Wi-Fi profiles, restrictions, and update settings can be set separately per category. For more information see Policy Management.
Settings have changed even though I didn't change any policies — why?
Policy changes can be triggered by other administrators at your institution. To track changes, check the Status & History in the Numiato portal.
